Mariana Goldfinch

summary

Mariana was my PC from a DND 5e campaign based on The Rise of Tiamat that ran from September 2018 to May 2019. She was a human Battlemaster Fighter centered on the Polearm Master fighting style and the Great Weapon Fighting feat.

The campaign centered around Mariana and her party members uncovering a plot to resurrect Tiamat. The campaign was kickstarted by the school all the party members attended being attacked, the surrounding town pillaged, and ultimately a magical forcefield generating device was stolen from within the school. Because only faculty, staff, and students were given the ability to pass freely to and from the shielded area, there was talk of it being an inside job. Mariana and the others were tasked with getting to the bottom of things by one of their professors, and with the damage wrought to the school and the surrounding town, she and the others were eager to bring justice to the criminals.

The trail of clues led them up and down the Sword Coast, where they gradually learned that perhaps the conspiracy was more aligned with ending the world than just stealing and pillaging, leading to the Cult of the Dragon declaring full out war. This finally convinced major powers to listen to the bedraggled adventurers who had been trying to get their attention, and with the support of more and more major governments behind Mariana and her friends, they continued investigating and thwarting the Cult's plans.

This culminated in the party launching an advanced assault on the Well of Dragons as the army of the combined kingdoms clashed with the Cult's own soldiers. They managed to sneak into the tower, already marked with the ability to move past the forcefield, and fighting and killing the leader of the cult, who had been the head of their school all along.
